A recent article published by fox news and American travel agency Austin-Lehman Adventures puts Costa Rica as number one wildlife destination in the world and it’s easy to understand why. With 5 % of the world’s biodiversity on a territory covering 0.03 % of the land surfaces of the Earth, a variety of habitats ranging from medium to high altitudes mountains (3,820 m), rainforest, dry forest cloud forest and even mangrove forest to two coasts (Caribbean and Pacific) with radically different climates, Costa Rica is indeed one of the best places in the world to spot abundant wildlife.

White face capuchins, howler and spider monkeys are everywhere as well as raccoons, two and three toed sloths and coatis; you simply cannot come to Costa Rica without satisfying your thirst for animal watching. Whale and dolphin watching is a favorite activity on the Pacific coast and sea turtles come to nest in many of the country’s beaches. On top of that, the Corcovado National Park is “the most biologically intense place on Earth” according to National Geographic.

Moreover Costa Rica is said to be a birders’ paradise thanks to the nine hundred birds’ species that can be observed throughout the year. More are discovered as new species come to migrate to this tropical paradise. The magnificent quetzal can be observed in different places such as Monteverde, the Quetzales, Volcan Poas and Chirripo National Parks to cite just a few and it is a trophy to bring a picture back home.
To sum up it is no surprise for us that Costa Rica was elected number one wildlife destination in the world, and you, what do you think about that? Did you spot a lot of wildlife on your trip to Costa Rica?
